This frigid winter has given some hope around the recent mild ones which often deliver more anxiety around climate change rather than enjoyment of the a balmy winter day. It is odd, and alarming, to say snowstorms feel nostalgic, but this more true feeling winter has created a natural longing for spring. The Charles froze solid this winter for the first time in a long time. Yesterday, while riding on the esplanade enjoying the first thaw, I noticed some of the river flowing again. This foreshadowing of warmer days and the city in blossom brought great joy. I come to the Charles for its peace, which has lacked due to its solid state and no visual flow. Many cultures believe in flowing water as good luck and other positive signs, watching the river flow for the first time in many months gave just that.
